Dog-Friendly Cities in California

Having two furbabies of our own (a 6 lbs Maltese mix, and an almost 50 lbs German Shepherd mix) is a struggle when it's travel time. Our shepherd mix, Oreo loves the outdoor and Penny does too but can be very anxious (she's a quarantine pup) so we always have to plan accordingly. We typically always have to weigh our options if we will be in a city (which 90% of the time is not dog-friendly) or if we will be in nature. This allows us to plan if the pups will be at a pet hotel or if they will come with us. Here are dog-friendly cities in California that will allow you to bring your furbabies.

San Diego

We can't talk about dog-friendly cities in California without talking about San Diego. I mean, a beach literally named, Dog Beach, is only nationally famous and is one of the first off-leash beaches in the States.

Lodging: Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. It is a beautiful pet-friendly hotel by the Seaport Village. The hotel does have a $100 Pet Fee for a 1-6 days stay and 50 lbs weight limit.

Huntington Beach

This is the boys' favorite beach. While Huntington State Beach itself is not pet-friendly, there is a Huntington Dog Beach along Highway 1 by Seapoint Avenue and 21st Street. Make sure to take your pooch to one of the events such as Surf City Surf Dog that happens every year!

Lodging: Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. Here are some deets!

Los Angeles

Being one of the most popular and famous cities in the world, it is nice that cities of Angels welcome our furbabies. There are some dog-friendly hikes such as Griffith Park, an observatory with the view of Los Angeles, and the Hollywood Sign. Most LA prohibits dogs, but 20 minutes from LA is Rosies Dog Beach in Long Beach.

Lodging: Andaz West Hollywood | Hyatt Regency Long Beach

Monterey

My favorite dog-friendly city! From Monterey to Pebble Beach to Carmel by the Sea, this place is a paradise for both pets and humans! There are pet-friendly activities such as hiking, shopping, and dining. They can run wild in Carmel Beach or whale watch with you.

Lodging: Carmel Valley Ranch | Hyatt Regency Monterey

San Francisco

SFO is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the nation. From dog parks to beaches to restaurants, this will allow you to travel stress-free. Many places in the city also allow Off-Leash Beaches.

Lodging: Grand Hyatt San Francisco
