Earth Day 2020

I couldn't be more excited about Earth Day this year! It is Earth Day's 50th year Anniversary! It's awesome to see more and more people share awareness and help provide education about the environmental issues we have.

This last fall, I started to strive for a low-waste, plastic-free lifestyle. I started to move away from purchasing anything with plastic and as much as it is difficult, I am so proud and happy with Cody and I's decision. Read my 2020 New Year's resolution here.

Here's five simple ways you can celebrate Earth Day!

  • Walking or Carpooling

Cody and I are lucky enough to work pretty much on the same block. When I was working for the Holiday Inn Express, we were literally working across each other. At first, it was weird to carpool but we started to enjoy it. It gives us 20 minutes of quality time with no kids, saves gas, and is one less car to produce harmful pollutants.

  • Join in on the Big Turn Off!

This means turning off those light switches, electronics, TV, and appliances. Turning these off when they are not in use not only conserve energy, but it can save you money! To take the extra step, you may update your home with more sustainable LED light bulbs and appliances.

  • Go Paperless

I started doing this a few years back -- to keep mail-thief away from my mail. Yes, they are not going to pay my bill for me, nor do they want my bills but they sure do want my information. You may start switching your bills and invoices to online only. This will reduce the amount of paper being used and produced.

  • Buy Reusable Products

This can be as easy as buying a reusable water bottle or coffee cup. May not apply right now during this COVID-19 pandemic, but did you know that Starbucks gives a $.10 discount whenever you bring your own cup? It doesn't even have to be their cup! They will take it regardless of the size. You can find some easy swaps I have made here.

  • Use Earth-Friendly Cleaning Products.

We all want a clean home, especially, during this pandemic, but did you know that many of our cleaning products are damaging to our environment? Many cleaning products contain chemicals that are harmful to people, animals, and plants. These chemicals can also contaminate our clean water sources. I have been personally using Mrs. Meyers for years now. Their products are made with plant-derived ingredients and essential oils making them earthly-friendly and not smelling like chemicals!
