Day Trip to Dixon Sunflower Fields

Dixon Sunflower Field is one of the most traveled fields in California during summer. Honestly, we found them on accident while pumping gas on our way back home from Sacramento at the same time last year. Many of them were still young and have not bloomed.

When Is The Best Time To Go?

It depends on the year but I would recommend late June, early July.

On June 22nd last year (2019), the sunflowers haven't bloomed and were still small. This year (2020), we had to drive several miles before we found these beautiful 6-feet tall sunflowers by Woodland around the same time as last year (June 20th, for my 30th birthday photos) but they were starting to dry out when we came back on June 27th. We did find this huge sunflower field by highway 80. They were in perfect bloom!

Where To Find Sunflower Fields?

Yolo County is filled with sunflower fields. I find Dixon and Woodland to be the best places to find the best ones so far. I didn't find the sunflowers by Pedrick Produce but we did find some close by.

As of right now, the best one I found is in Dixon, CA: On Highway 80, get off on exit 113 towards Kidwell Road. Cloverleaf Farm and The Collins Farm are located in Olmo Ln.

Tips And Reminders —

  • Go very early or during sunset to avoid crowds to prevent photobombs and achieve your picture-perfect!

  • Most of these fields are private property. If you could, it is always best to ask for permission from the owner.

  • These are farmer's livelihoods. Don't step on the plants, pick, or damage the flowers. Most of the fields have a "path", choose one that is large enough or take a photo in front of the field. Let's enjoy the flowers without harming them and being respectful to our farmers.

  • It can get very muddy! Wear shoes you are okay getting dirty.

  • Bring a flowy dress, sunscreen, and a sun hat!

  • Have a Sunny Day!
