A Day at Universal Studios Hollywood
While we probably have discussed going here and there, we never really planned on going to Universal until recently — and we are so glad we did! It is no secret that we are a Disney family and have visited Disneyland quite a bit, so it would be a lie if I don't say we did not compare it a bit. Universal is much smaller with fewer attractions and rides, but it is unique and a lot of fun! Here are some things to do if you are planning a day at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Hayleigh has been into Harry Potter, so what's better than going to Wizarding World of Harry Potter for the first time! While we are quite bummed that we do not have Diagon Alley and Gringotts like Orlando, we still absolutely enjoyed our time casting spells and soaking in the magical world!
We spent the majority of our day exploring Hogsmeade. Hogwarts Express is not a ride but is a good photo spot. Make sure to grab a butterbeer and an interactive wand to cast awesome spells!
Rides
Flight of the Hippogriff
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Dining
We had lunch at Three Broomstick. The food plates are quite large portions so you can (and I recommend) share The Great Feast ($69.99). The Herb Roast Chicken ($17.99) is probably my favorite choice. The Fish and Chips ($18.99) are also not bad.
Springfield USA
Did you even go here if you didn't check out their giant donuts from Lard Lad Donuts? I'm sure the boys would have preferred the Krusty Burger than Three Broomstick, but hey, I offered it for a snack.
Rides
The Simpsons Ride
Studio Tour
This is our absolute favorite ride. It takes about an hour and explains some of the cool movies behind the scenes. They showcase King Kong 360 3-D, Fast and Furious Supercharged, Jaws, and much more!
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem & The Secret Life of Pets
We visited Gru's home where we were recruited by him and his daughters. Unfortunately, we did not pass the training. It is a very kid-friendly, mild thrill ride.
The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash only had a virtual line available. If you wish to ride, you really MUST download the Universal Studios Hollywood App.
Transformers, The Mummy Returns, & Jurrassic World
The thriller rides for older children and adults are located in the lower lot. We were so excited when we saw Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee.
Dining
Isla Nu-Bar has some good 21+ beverages! Pina Colada and Mai Tai should be on your list.
Character Sightings
Of course, this is fun for many kids! Seeing their favorite characters in person. We were able to meet Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime at the lower level, but the majority of the characters were in the upper level. We met some cast of Shrek, to Guy Diamond, to Dracula, and Scooby-Doo! Although we typically had to squeeze bubba's arm to get a family photo, it was surely a fun day for the family!
Grinchmas
If there is a time I would recommend a visit, I would highly recommend the Christmas time when they have the park decorated for Christmas.🎄 Grinchmas is a seasonal event and only happens during Christmas time. You can meet the Grinch, Cindy Lou Lou, Mr. Mayor, Max, and so much more! They also do the lighting of the Whoville Christmas tree!
Simple & Quick Tips For Your Visit
Download the Universal Studios Hollywood App. The App will have accessible information and map. Wi-Fi is available throughout the park.
Bring a backpack, sunscreen, bottle of water, and potable charger.
Come early and when you get in, start at the lower level/back and work your way to the front. People tends to start exploring the Wizarding World and attractions closer to the entrance.
This is no brainer but consider going on Sunday or weekdays. We went on a Sunday and it was not very crowded. Wait times are also not bad even though we didn't purchase the Universal Express. Tickets are also cheaper!
Visit the Universal CityWalk on your way out! Its a great place to eat and shop for last-minute souvenirs.
