5 NonTox Ways To Make Your House Smells Good
A clean and good smelling house keeps me sane. Nope, that’s not a joke. The husband and children will tell you that one thing that stresses me out is a messy and smelly house! Thank goodness my teenaged son showers because let me tell ya, he has been testing me.
I have always love woody scent. I remember that back in high school I would purchase men’s cologne and in college, I was buying Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce to spray in my bedroom because I preferred it more than a sweet fruity smell. It is not until I am older that I started exploring and become more open to scents, so it was pretty difficult to give up my favorite Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Diffuser that I typically use in our home — until recently. I found a way to make our house smell good using low-tax and natural products!
1. Baking Soda
Putting baking soda in a container and throughout the house, help eliminate the odor. Make sure to change it every week!
2. Vinegar
Vinegar has a strong smell but is a very effective natural deodorizer. It is also a mild disinfectant and keeps some pests away! Clean (and deodorize your home) using diluted white vinegar with equal parts water and add citrus peels like orange and herbs.
3. Essential Oils
Essential oils have a lot of benefits and can be used in many ways — one as a home fragrance! It can be used with a diffuser or spray! Some of the best essential oil to use are lavender, lemon, cinnamon, peppermint, rosemary, orange, ylang-ylang, and eucalyptus!
4. Fresh Flowers / Leaves
Fresh Plant is one of my new favorite natural aromatics in the house. Lately, I have been buying fresh eucalyptus and putting this in the bathroom. They are both great for aroma and aesthetics! I currently have one by the sink and another hanging in the shower. When taking a warm shower, the steam interacts with the eucalyptus oil creating a natural diffuser that even helps those with allergies like I do!
Lavender is another plant I have been growing in my garden and using lavender flowers (fresh & dried) throughout our home.
5. Simmer Pots
Simmer Pots aka Potpourri has been my favorite “home freshener”. Using herbs from my garden or things I already have in the kitchen also makes it convenient!
