Sourdough Starter

Baking was never really something I was passionate about growing up but as I learn more about slow living and strive for low tox and zero waste, I have been learning how to cook and bake from scratch.

Cody and the kids loves sourdough, so what’s better bread to make than this!

What I Learned & Tips

  • Do not use tap water and start with 1/3 cup of room temp water. Flour consistency may be different. Using 1/2 cup right away may result in being too watery mixture

  • Unbleached all-purpose flour works well but Bread flour is my preference and I’d say a better option. It also has a higher protein content.

  • Use a glass jar at least 16 oz in size with wide mouth for easy stir & cleaning

  • Cleaning the jar too often may result in mold

  • Name your starter, you will spend a long time with them as they can last years if maintained and fed properly
